1. The Astronomical Math of 4K & 8K Video Recording
Modern Android cameras are cinema-grade tools. But video bitrate multiplies file size exponentially:
- 1080p 30fps: ~130 MB per minute
- 4K 30fps: ~350 MB per minute
- 4K 60fps: ~600 MB per minute (3.6 GB in 6 minutes!)
- 8K 30fps: ~800 MB per minute (nearly 1 GB every 75 seconds!)
If you recorded a concert, your kid's soccer match, or a pet running around, three forgotten clips can easily eat 15GB of your internal drive.
2. How to Filter and Sort Videos by Size on Samsung & Android
- Open Files by Google or Samsung My Files.
- Tap Videos.
- Tap the Sort icon (three lines or 'Name') in the top-right corner.
- Choose 'Largest first' or 'Size'.
- Review the top 10 heaviest files. Delete failed takes, accidental recordings in your pocket, or duplicate clips.
- Purge the Recycle Bin to immediately restore flash storage.
3. Switching to HEVC / H.265 in Camera Settings
Cut future video file sizes in half without sacrificing quality:
- Open your Camera app > Settings (gear icon).
- Tap Advanced video options.
- Enable 'High efficiency video' (HEVC).
- This enables modern H.265 compression, reducing file sizes by up to 50% compared to legacy H.264!
