1. Emptying the Xiaomi / HyperOS Gallery Trash Bin
Just like Samsung and Apple, Xiaomi implements a 30-day safety net for deleted photos:
- Open the Gallery app on your Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO phone.
- Swipe to the Albums tab.
- Scroll down and tap Deleted items (Trash bin).
- Tap Clear all to immediately recover that physical flash memory.
2. Eliminating the Hidden '.thumbnails' Cache on Xiaomi
In Xiaomi MIUI and HyperOS, the system creates uncompressed thumbnail copies of every image and video clip you browse. Over 2 years, the hidden .thumbnails folder can swell to 15GB–25GB!
- Open the built-in File Manager app.
- Tap the folder icon at the top to browse internal storage.
- Navigate to MIUI > Gallery > cloud > cache or DCIM > .thumbnails.
- Safely delete the cached thumbnail database. Your gallery will automatically regenerate tiny, lightweight versions as needed.
3. Visual Culling with Swipe Photo Cleaner
Managing photos through Xiaomi's default grid can be slow and clunky. Swipe Photo Cleaner offers an ultra-fluid card interface optimized for HyperOS: swipe left to discard, swipe right to keep. Clean months of screenshots, memes, and burst shots in minutes.
